Nutrition12 Hacks For Successful Keto Dieting Written by Nicola Joyce12th June 2025 Ready to start a keto diet? These 12 hacks for successful Keto dieting will help! You’ve decided to transition to a ketogenic diet. You’ve heard about the health benefits, the fat loss potential, and you’re keen to see what it does for your energy levels. But now you’re wondering how easy it will be to set up a keto diet and stick to it. We’ve got great tips for running a ketogenic diet and making it a success. SWITCH UP YOUR BREAKFAST Traditional breakfasts – at least in the UK – are a carb-heavy meal. You’ll need to switch your mindset and your food shop away from cereal, oats, and breads towards eggs, cheese, meats, and nuts. For many people, this switch is a habit that’s hard to break. Remember, there’s no such thing as a breakfast food. PREP YOUR OWN If ever there was a time to get on board with food prep, it’s when you’re a keto dieter. Shop-bought snacks and café meals aren’t particularly keto-friendly, so it will pay off to prep and carry your meals, snacks, and treats. MEAL PLAN FOR THE WEEK Keto can be a significant change to your eating habits, so it’ll really help if you set aside time once a week to meal plan. Have go-to breakfasts and lunches, then a few main meals you can choose from. RETHINK SNACKING Most “snack” foods have the wrong macros to be keto friendly. You’ll need to think outside the box. Cold meats, cheese, jerky, and hardboiled eggs are all good keto mini meals. If you fancy getting creative, make some sweet treats with ingredients like coconut oil, coconut flakes, cacao powder, and nut butter (try PhD Smart Nut Butter). CONTROL YOUR ENVIRONMENT Your home and work environment might not be conducive to a successful keto diet right now. Spend some time clearing out carb-heavy foods, or putting them out of sight if you have to share a kitchen. Research shops and eateries you can fall back on when you’re out and about. Make life easy for yourself. PLAN FOR CRAVINGS If you had a sweet tooth before keto, don’t expect it to disappear completely. Think ahead and have some homemade bars or powerballs to hand – there are lots of keto recipes online. STOCK YOUR FRIDGE Not many keto foods are ambient, so make sure your fridge and freezer are well stocked with meats, fish, cheese, and low-carb vegetables. Those packets of rice and pasta won’t be any use to you now! CAULIFLOWER-EVERYTHING Cauliflower rice had a moment, but for keto dieters it can be a real saviour. For meals where you’d normally have rice or another grain, try making “rice” out of cauliflower (or broccoli) to replace the bulk. LOW CARB VEGGIES Buy plenty of keto-friendly vegetables and leaves, and make sure they are ready to use in recipes or grab as snacks. If you see leafy greens or salad ingredients in the sale section – grab them. FIND A KETO PROTEIN POWDER A good quality keto protein powder will help you manage your macros. With 6.3g fat & 3g carbs per serving, Diet Whey Keto is a high fat & low carbohydrate shake for targeting fat loss and maintaining a lean physique when on a Keto diet. Available in 3 amazing flavours, it contains fat burning ingredients including CLA, L-Carnitine and Green Tea extract. FALL IN LOVE WITH BLACK COFFEE Some of your previous drink choices won’t be keto – but here’s something to make you smile… black coffee is completely keto! If you need a little something, add some cream. TRACK YOUR ENERGY It can be difficult to get the fuelling aspect of keto right straight away. Track your energy levels, sleep, mood, and training performance to assess whether you’re eating enough. Some people find keto suppresses the appetite, so you may not realise you need to eat more.
