Charge Pre-Workout: The key ingredients and their benefits? Written by Team PhD 3 minutesShare CHARGE PRE-WORKOUT Leucine (1500mg) – Leucine represents an essential amino acid that plays a key role in stimulating muscle protein synthesis, process which alongside muscle protein breakdown, determines changes in muscle mass. Leucine should be consumed in a range of 700-3000mg in a meal/drink alongside other essential amino acids in order to maximally stimulate muscle protein synthesis. Creatine Monohydrate (3000mg) – Creatine monohydrate supplementation increases our muscle phosphocreatine stores, providing an additional source of energy during intense exercise. Creatine supplementation was shown to enhance maximal power/strength, sprint performance and work performed during high-intensity exercise. Taurine (1000mg) – Taurine is an amino acid that plays a role in a range of physiological processes and was shown in several studies to enhance endurance performance and to reduce muscular fatigue during strength exercise. Citrulline Malate – Citrulline malate has been suggested to enhance exercise performance by acting as a direct precursor for nitric oxide, increase the rate of ATP production by mitigating lactate production and by improving ATP production. Caffeine (200mg) – Caffeine supplementation was shown in a range of studies to enhance endurance performance, muscular strength, sprinting performance, as well as a range of aerobic and anaerobic sport-specific actions. Caffeine supplementation was shown to also enhance cognitive performance, including attention and vigilance. L-Theanine (80mg) – When consumed in combination with caffeine, l-theanine supplementation improves cognitive performance and reduce feelings of jitters in response to caffeine.
