Training

Consistency isn’t the answer by Tom Biggs

Whatever your goal: fat loss, muscle gain, mobility, fitness etc., if you ask personal trainers about what the key to any of this is, many would say consistency.

I know a lot of people who are personal trainers themselves, or actively employ a personal trainer. These people are consistent with their training; some training up to 6 times a week. However, the personal trainers nor their clients look any different as they do not work hard enough. If you want to seek improvement it’s not about consistency, it’s about consistent hard work.

You have to maximise that time you have in the gym and put in the hard work. It’s not nice and it’s not glamorous, but people stop short of reps or won’t increase the weight. Some people go to the gym for the social aspect, chatting to people during their workout, or making sure their camera is set up in the right position, which is fine, but if you are one of those people don’t lie to yourself that you are working hard and doing everything you can to maximise that effort in the gym. There’s no magic exercise, or magic diet; it’s consistent hard work.

To be able to commit to training at maximum effort consistently, fuel and recovery need to be vital considerations. Without sufficient fuel, maximum output is simply not possible. Without ample recovery, injuries and burn-outs are almost certain. PhD’s product range covers all requirements for pre, intra and post training so you can fuel and recover optimally. Their pre-workouts help to give you that extra boost when it comes to getting you motivated and focused ahead of your session. To help increase the length and productivity of sessions, as well as priming the body for optimal recovery, PhD’s Intra BCAA helps to reduce muscle breakdown, muscle soreness and increase protein synthesis. For post-exercise, PhD has a range of powders to suit every goal. Sometimes you can’t beat a good old standard whey; PhD’s Pharma Whey is a premium whey powder that cannot be beaten on taste. Synergy ISO-7, their all in one powder, is ideal for those long and intense sessions. Not forgetting PhD’s Smart Bars which are a great macro-friendly snack, perfect between meals to ensure you are sufficiently fuelled to give it your all in the gym.
