The benefits of DIGEST on gut health

Anna and digest shake

Anybody who suffers from digestive issues will understand how debilitating it can be and how important gut health is. Whether it’s excessive boating, stomach aches, diarrhoea, IBS or constipation, the symptoms of digestive issues can cause serious discomfort. We know that these side effects can really affect your day.

There are many ways to improve and maintain your digestive health, including having a healthy, balanced diet that’s rich in nutrients and full of fibre. Additionally, supplements are an excellent way to boost your gut health, restore your gut after disruption, keep your immune system healthy and even improve your mood.

We created DIGEST a part of the new PhD LIFE Range to help you do just that, so here’s a little more about the importance of a healthy gut and what supplements can do to help you maintain a healthy digestive system.

What are the benefits of a healthy gut?

Your gut really affects your whole body. Thankfully, lots of research has been done on the importance of a healthy gut.  We’re more knowledgeable than ever on how to keep it healthy and the sheer benefits of doing so.

According to research, a healthy gut helps contribute to a strong immune system, brain health, heart health, improved mood and sleep and may even help prevent some cancers and autoimmune diseases.

What is ‘Good Bacteria’?

You may have heard this phrase before, but here’s the lowdown; you have lots of bacteria in your body and most of it is good for you. Bacteria in your gut helps you digest foods and help support good physical and mental health. These good bacteria also help keep the ‘bad’ bacteria in check, by multiplying so much that the bad stuff doesn’t have time to grow.

This is why having a good balance of bacteria in your gut is important; it maintains an integral balance that keeps you healthy.

Studies have found that having too much bad bacteria in your gut can lead to conditions such as Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and IBS.

What do probiotics do?

Probiotics are a popular supplement as they are made up of good bacteria. They’re a combination of live bacteria/yeasts that are found naturally in your body and they can help:

  • Keep bad bacteria in check and stop them from making you unwell
  • Help you digest your food
  • Create vitamins
  • Help prevent bad bacteria from entering your blood

Each of us has a unique microbiome, which is a community of microbes that work as a team to keep you healthy. Probiotics contribute to this community and play an important role in keeping the balance of bacteria healthy.
