When and why I use Pre-Workout by Hannah Goulding

It’s definitely down to preference, but for me personally – there’s no better way to start the day than with a sweaty training session first thing in the morning – just as the sun begins to rise. I find my energy and productivity levels are at their peak upon waking – prime time for me to fit in an effective workout….however some days call for my go-to pre-workout from PhD. 

Why I take my pre-workout

Understandably, I can’t expect to wake up with intense energy levels or the same strong mental focus every single day… there will always be days when the snooze button is hit multiple times, with the growing temptation to turn my alarm off altogether,  for the sake of a few more minutes in bed! So on those days especially, pre-workout is my best friend! 

Pre-workout gives me an extra push towards making sure I hit each and every set and rep during a training session. Whilst I don’t rely on taking pre-workout in order to workout, I always look forward to taking it and reaping the benefits!

I find the PhD charge pre-workout definitely helps me not only physically, but also mentally. Containing Alpha GPC, L Theanine and a 200mg serving of Caffeine – maintaining a good mental focus throughout my workouts are made easier. It also provides a boost physically to keep pushing through each exercise.

When I take my pre-workout

I take my pre-workout ahead of a session when I need that extra boost to maximise my performance. The Grape Candy flavour provides explosive power from the creatine and BCAA’s – so it’s certainly a great way to ‘charge’ up or refuel when your body needs some extra energy. 

Whilst I much prefer to workout in the morning, there are days this isn’t entirely possible. On those days especially, pre-workout seriously is my holy grail. My energy and motivation levels towards the end of the day tend to decline, a perfect time for a pick-me-up that is pre-workout! 

My favourite pre-workout products

It’s hard to choose a favourite flavour… they all taste so good! Although I definitely find myself regularly reaching for the PhD charge pre-workout in the Grape Candy ahead of an intense session – it’s a winner for me (runner up would be the Blue Gummy Bear!!). 

An alternative to the Charge pre-workout powders are the Charge pre-workout shots! My personal favourite is the Blue Raspberry flavour, it definitely has a sour kick to it – but it’s perfect when preparing to reach peak performance! I tend to choose the pre-workout shots when I’m looking to power up my energy levels ahead of an explosive cardio or HIIT session. I quite literally shot it back, and instantly feel pumped and rearing to go from the kick it provides.

The Charge pre-workout shots contain vitamins B3, B6 and B12 – which not only accompany many important health benefits, they also help reduce tiredness and fatigue –  which can have a huge impact on performance! As mentioned previously fatigue can significantly affect both mental and physical performance!

Pre-workout will forever be a staple in my fitness supplements cupboard, I can always rely on it for some of my most intense workouts – and I’m almost guaranteed to be leaving the gym feeling satisfied with a major post-workout endorphin rush!
